Welcome to the August wrap-up from your SA ACS branch, highlighting the key activities and events that brought our community together and showcasing our shared achievements and memorable moments.
SA Branch Forum - Innovative access to health records using QR technology
We’re thrilled to share the highlights from our branch forum held on July 31, where we explored the complexities of health care systems and the challenges of providing timely, accurate data for decision-making.
A special thank you to our speaker, Chris Radbone, for his insightful presentation, and to our Branch Chair, Tapan Dave, for securing a fantastic new venue in the heart of the CBD.
Thanks to members’ valuable feedback, we worked diligently to find a new, free venue for our monthly branch forum, and we’re thrilled with the outcome!
The new space, located in the heart of the CBD, received high praise for its lighting, accessibility, and overall ambiance.
TAFE South Australia: Inspiring and Advancing Your Career in IT
The South Australian branch had the pleasure of participating in the Inspiring and Advancing Your Career in Information Technology event at TAFE SA. This event brought together aspiring IT professionals and industry experts to explore the dynamic opportunities within the tech sector.
Tafe students received advice on tech roles and career pathways, along with insights into developing technical and interpersonal skills.
Our Branch Manager, Andrew Haste, took part in a session focusing on the ACS Supported Student Membership program presenting the benefits of membership, the ongoing membership drive, and the process of becoming an ACS member.
The session was a hit, with students showing great enthusiasm for the idea of free ACS membership for TAFE IT students.
Overall, it was a fantastic event that allowed us to connect with future IT professionals and support them on their career journeys.
ACS Joins the Mission: Supporting Skilled Migrants in SA
The South Australian team, including Brian Peel from the Branch Executive Committee and Events Manager, Jean Mui, participated in the 'Welcome to SA' event organised by the Skills Business Migration team from the Department of State Development.
This session provided valuable information and awareness about settlement support for new arrivals in South Australia, including guidance on job searching and networking opportunities.
At the ACS booth, we engaged with skilled migrants from the IT industry, sharing the benefits of ACS membership and the networking opportunities available within our community.
As participants in this meaningful event, we aimed to support new migrants and establish new connections within the IT sector.
We deeply appreciate the support and involvement of Brian Peel, who dedicated his time to assist our efforts at the booth.
His commitment made our participation impactful and aligned with our mission to support skilled migrants in South Australia.
SA Social: Networking with Industry Professionals
We hosted the highly anticipated SA Social: Networking with Industry Professionals event at Mr. Goodbar with huge success.
Members enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere filled with meaningful conversations, delicious hot food, and complimentary drinks.
It was fantastic to see familiar faces, returning faces, and even some new ones. We are thrilled to share that two non-members were so impressed that they requested to become members on the spot!
A big thank you to our Branch Chair, Tapan Dave, for his unwavering support, and to Andrew and Jean for their excellent organisation and management.
This event once again demonstrated the value of connecting with fellow professionals in a casual setting. The SA Branch looks forward to more opportunities like this in the future!
SA hosts Successful Collaboration in Connecting ICT Talent
To wrap up the month, ACS South Australia hosted a highly successful event in collaboration with the Department of State Development (DSD) and AIIA. With over 120 attendees and registrations closing three weeks early, the event clearly resonated with South Australia’s ICT community.
Bringing together hiring managers, skilled migrants, ICT professionals, and recruitment consultants, the event provided a valuable platform to foster industry connections and explore strategies for engaging international talent in the local market.
Attendees left with fresh insights and new connections, deepening their understanding of how to support and integrate skilled migrants into the ICT sector.
A special thanks to Sonya Paterson and Jennifer Tuk from DSD, Rob Absalom and Jason Dreimanis from AIIA, and our panellists for making the event a great success. We look forward to seeing members at our next event and continuing to build these important connections!
