1.What do you enjoy most about working in the tech industry?
The challenge of being in a field that is continually changing, requires continual updating of skills and knowledge and the opportunities to work and collaborate with other professionals across the world.
2.What is the key piece of advice you’d give to your younger self?
It is now my personal mantra: Dream Big and Believe: Believe in yourself, your abilities; and what you can achieve. Whilst I, deep down, think I always knew this I didn’t realise until just a few years ago that when I applied it, this was what led me to achieving some of my biggest, boldest dreams that I had held since childhood! I wish I had understood that this is what I needed to do earlier in my life because who knows where it may have led me…
3.Tech changes fast. How do you keep your tech skills up-to-date?
Professional development; reading; subscribing to webinars; attending conferences; white papers etc
4.What is your greatest challenge as a leader/ business owner?
Dealing with bias, both conscious and unconscious and as I was climbing the corporate ladder the lack of strong, relevant female role models.
5.How has ACS membership supported your career journey in tech?
Through providing much of what I need to keep my skills up to date; a great network of professionals to collaborate with and to use as sounding boards for new ideas. And it now provides me with as way to give back to the profession through my work on the BEC and at the national level through ACS’s Congress.
