ACS Queensland Gold Coast Chapter update

1st September 2021
  • The ACS Queensland Gold Coast Chapter is one of our most active regional member chapters, holding monthly professional development and networking events to support the local ICT profession. Find out more about what’s coming up on the Gold Coast and register for some great complimentary events, including the Gold Coast Business of ICT Leader’s Lunch on 2 December.

The ACS Queensland Gold Coast Chapter has recently been re-established and as the new Chair, I thought it would be great to share what is going on. Thanks to the fantastic level of support for the Chapter in the Gold Coast region, from sold-out events, to support of key initiatives, to the breadth of industry experience of those on the Chapter, we have really been able to get the Chapter into full swing.

Please see the Branch website to see the Chapter members involved.

The Chapter reformed with a common purpose, to grow and connect the tech industry in our community, we are doing this through a series of events that meet our target group's wants and needs.

We 3 Series of events spread over year, which are showcasing tech on the Gold Coast, providing Career Pathway guidance, or just having some fun and connecting with likeminded people.

Currently in the schedule are a range of complimentary member events:

• On the evening of Thurs 16 September, 5pm – 7.30pm, we have our regional Roadshow event on AI in Action, where we aim to showcase some of the great local AI Tech coming out of our Region – register here.

• On the evening of Tuesday 19 October, we are conducting a Higher Education Showcase, where we aim share with parents and students what options they have to develop their careers when they leave school.

• In November, we are helping students practise their soft skills. We will arrange practise time with real-world CIOs and recruiters for interviews and feedback, so students can learn and prepare for the job market.

•     On Thurs 2 December, 11.30am – 2pm, we are looking forward to wrapping up the year with the Business of ICT Leader’s Lunch that showcases the successes of local ICT businesses, proudly sponsored by William Buck - register here, places are strictly limited.

We are also looking at innovative ways to facilitate fun and networking opportunities online, so we can still promote connections without any COVID restrictions.

The team are really committed to the purpose and I am lucky to chair such an enthusiastic group. We are getting behind key initiatives the ACS have, such as the ACS Gateway to Industry Schools Program for ICT, and always looking to grow and connect the tech industry in the Gold Coast….which of course the next Silicon Valley!

If you would like to get involved with the Gold Coast Chapter, then please do not hesitate to contact myself or any of the team. Additionally, if you’re interested in forming a Chapter in your local region, and want to know the journey we went on, please reach out to myself or Holly Bretherton, State Manager, ACS Queensland (holly.bretherton@acs.org.au).
