North Metropolitan TAFE (NM TAFE) is one of the state’s leading tertiary educational institutions, offering a wide variety of courses across Perth’s metropolitan area. There are a multitude of reasons why many people each semester decide to enrol at NM TAFE: one reason being to take advantage of a surge within a key area of industry in order to make a meaningful impact, or just learn with great lecturers and facilitators in becoming a master of their subject. One such area that is experiencing significant interest and growth is Cyber Security; an area in which NM TAFE has rich experience and abilities to offer students and industry.
In partnership with Edith Cowan University’s School of Science, our ‘Cyber Security Industry Pathway’ program allows students with certain pre-requisite knowledge or qualification to enter a course that sees the student gain key qualifications over the course of 2½ years as a full-time student, resulting in an Advanced Diploma in Information Technology, specialising in cyber security. At this stage, the student can either enter the workforce equipped and industry-ready or decide to continue their studies at Edith Cowan University for a further 18 months and gain a Bachelor of Science degree specialising in cyber security. After four years of full-time study, a lucrative and promising career now emerges for the student, ready to take on the challenges of keeping Australia, helping to keep businesses and citizens safe at work and at home.
Naturally, the student can study part-time over a longer period, and this represents a real opportunity for businesses to support our students as part of a paid traineeship. This support helps the student in gaining valuable learning within the industry, and also allows the employer to shape the person they need to help protect their business’s information assets. The potential result of supporting a paid student traineeship? A supremely educated and industry-ready ICT professional shaped to the needs of the business as a valued member of the organisation.
