At the ACS Foundation BiG Day In Sunshine Coast on 13 March, two local YTAs shared their tech journeys with 400 students who travelled from schools between Bundaberg and north Brisbane.

Jameson Harvey founded Red Dirt Robotics whilst still at high school. In 2022, fresh from graduating Year 12, Jameson embarked on a unique journey into the Outback. He crisscrossed Australia twice, reaching more than 2 500 young engineers in regional and remote communities. Jameson shared his story on stage to a wide range of students already on a tech study pathway.

Sarah Eisenmenger was a robotics team mate with Jameson at high school and has her own amazing story. Sarah is also a business owner (Zest Robotics) who advocates for females in STEM, striving to deliver the best quality engineering, science and robotics education to girls through workshops, events and videos. Zest Robotics builds leadership and a STEM confidence for young girls, supporting the need to increase female participation in STEM and digital careers. Sarah spoke to over 70 students at the BDI, and the local context of her pathway resonated within the conversations.

The Young Tech Ambassador program is free for schools. Digital Technology teachers and careers specialists can register to participate at https://www.acs.org.au/tech-ambassador.html.

The BiG Day In Sunshine Coast 12/3/2024

The ACS Foundation BiG Day In is certainly back as Australia’s number one National STEM Careers Conference. 400 students descended on Venue 114 at Bokarina to hear inspiring and engaging stories from a wide range of local, Queensland and Inter-State presenters, and speak directly to employers at over 20 exhibitor tables.

ACS is the major sponsor of the nation-wide BDIs and was represented by Young Tech Ambassadors Sarah and Jameson alongside Education Pathways and Partnerships Manager Matthew Jorgensen. At the table, Sarah and Matthew spoke directly to 76 tech students ranging from Year 9 to year 12, whilst Jameson took centre stage to share his remote and indigenous community outreach.
