Sentiment Analysis for Business: AI & Big Data event a success on the Gold Coast

The ACS QLD Gold Coast Chapter successfully hosted the "Sentiment Analysis for Business: AI & Big Data" event on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Southern Cross University Gold Coast. Chaired by Paul Walters, Chair of the ACS QLD Gold Coast Chapter, the event delved into the transformative potential of artificial intelligence and big data in business analytics.

Dr Vinh Bui, Senior Lecturer in Computational Modelling, Southern Cross University Gold Coast; and member of the ACS QLD Gold Coast Chapter, delivered a compelling presentation, exploring advanced techniques in sentiment analysis and their application across various industries.

The event also celebrated academic excellence with the presentation of the ACS SCU Student Award for 2023 to Jake Jensen. Jake was recognized for achieving the highest GPA, securing an impressive 13 HDs and 6 Ds throughout his degree.

A special thank you to Immediate Outgoing Chair of the ACS QLD BEC, Beau Tydd, for stepping in at the last minute to present the SCU Student Award, due to unforeseen absences due to illness.

We are thrilled with the turnout and engagement at the event. It's clear that there is a growing interest in leveraging AI and big data to drive business insights and innovation.

The event was made possible through the generous support of Southern Cross University Gold Coast, serving as the venue sponsor.

Looking ahead, the ACS QLD Gold Coast Chapter is committed to continuing knowledge sharing and professional development within the local tech community. Stay tuned for future events and initiatives aimed at furthering expertise and fostering community.

Toowoomba Regional Roadshow sponsored by Pack of 7 Australia

ACS Qld Branch visited Toowoomba on 13 – 14 June to host our Toowoomba Regional Roadshow sponsored by Pack of 7 Australia on 13 June to discover the power of Microsoft 365 and networking with local industry.

Thank you to our presenters - Ryan Wilson, Pack of 7 for sharing how organisations can make the most of Microsoft 365 and Eleanor Crosby for her insights into workforce planning.

We also worked in conjunction with USQ to host the event as complimentary, with a Downs and South-West ACS Chapter planning meeting also held at USQ, where we discussed a strategic focus on building memberships with local tech professionals and leaders, a Toowoomba Leaders roundtable along with a careers fair evening where employers and students are brought together to support the local tech talent pipeline.

Meetings were held with the Darling Downs Hospital Health Service, where a PPP was pitched, and discussions were held around how ACS can support workforce development for the new Toowoomba digital hospital. A meeting was also held with Pulse Data Centre, who will host our upcoming Toowoomba tech leaders event for October.
