Meet a Member – Sarah-Jane Peterschlingmann
Highlights
- In this edition of OneACS we meet Sarah-Jane Peterschlingmann FACS, ACS Qld Vice Chair, Managing Director of ATech and one of our newest ACS Fellows. Hear about SJ’s journey from web developer to Managing Director, and the important contributions she is making o the ACS Queensland Branch Executive Committee to drive the digital economy agenda across Qld.
1. Tell us about your tech career journey highlights to date?
My journey began as a web developer, and I've been fortunate to help grow ATech from a small business to a multi-million dollar company serving high-profile clients like Virgin Australia, Seqwater and Brisbane City Council. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to work on mission-critical web projects that push the boundaries of cloud hosting and development. Winning the 2022 Queensland Pearcey ICT Entrepreneur of the Year award was a significant milestone, as it recognised not just my business achievements, but the social impact of my work. I’ve also enjoyed sharing my experiences on leadership and technology, as both an author and a speaker.
2. Why did you get involved at ACS, and what are you hoping to achieve on the ACS QLD Branch Executive?
Joining ACS was a natural fit given my passion for advancing the technology industry. ACS plays a critical role in fostering collaboration, innovation and professional development in tech. As Vice Chair of the ACS Queensland Branch Executive Committee, I’m focused on contributing to a forward-thinking agenda that supports growth of the digital economy across South East Queensland and throughout the regions. I see ACS as a platform for amplifying the voices of professionals and ensuring we remain at the forefront of global technology advancements.
3. What professional advice would you provide your younger self?
I would tell my younger self to always stay authentic and trust in your unique perspective. In the early stages of my career, I sometimes felt the pressure to fit into predefined moulds of what success should look like. But I’ve learned that true innovation and leadership come from being genuine and embracing your individuality. Authenticity builds trust and stronger relationships, both personally and professionally. I’d also remind myself to embrace the journey (not just the destination!), take calculated risks, seek out mentors and trust my instincts. Success is as much about personal growth and resilience as it is about hitting professional milestones. Your belief in what is possible will make the difference between mediocrity and greatness. Have the courage to follow your heart and just keep showing up. You're not defined by how many times you are knocked down, but by how many times you rise again!
4. What is the ACS member benefit you enjoy the most and why?
I particularly enjoy the networking opportunities ACS provides. Through events, conferences, and special interest groups, I’ve had the chance to connect with an incredible range of professionals from various industries. These interactions have not only inspired new ideas but also opened up opportunities for collaboration and knowledge-sharing, which are invaluable in such a fast-moving field.
ATech and ACS members have mutually benefited from ATech internships and, in some cases, ongoing employment. For example, a few years ago ATech took on an intern through the ACS Professional Year Program. Impressed by her performance, we offered her a full-time position as a Junior Developer Programmer. Now promoted to Team Leader, she is managing a team of developers.
5. What is your favourite piece of tech or gadget?
I’m a huge fan of artificial intelligence, particularly in how AI is being integrated into everyday tools and business solutions. At ATech, we leverage AI so our clients can optimise workflows and enhance user experiences. It’s a game-changer in improving efficiency and decision-making. But if I had to choose a personal gadget, I’d say my Samsung phone. Samsung always seems to be on the cutting edge when it comes to both the underlying hardware as well as new software technology adoption. For example, the onboard AI in the newer Samsung phones is both impressive and really useful. They have included some smart features out of the box like AI transcription and photo editing tools.
6. How can members contact you?
I’m always happy to connect and share insights with fellow ACS members. The best way to reach me is via LinkedIn.
