In late October, Rockhampton’s tech community gathered for a lively evening exploring AI’s impact in regional business at Navigating Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Pitfalls for Businesses and ICT Professionals. Hosted by ACS Queensland’s Rockhampton Chapter and Capricorn ICT Network, the event featured an engaging panel discussion on AI’s potential, ethical considerations, and practical applications in Central North Queensland.

The discussion was expertly facilitated by Roy Pidgeon, Chair of the ACS QLD Rockhampton Regional Chapter and Chief Digital Officer at CQUniversity. Roy was joined by an insightful panel, including:

  • Peter Vanheck, Director, Data and Cybersecurity, CQUniversity, and member of the ACS Queensland Rockhampton Chapter

Peter and Roy did a fantastic job bringing the event to life in collaboration with the QLD Branch team, with high attendee engagement and conversations that continued seamlessly into informal discussions. The evening was bookended by pizza and drinks, giving attendees further opportunities to connect and reflect on AI’s role in the region.

A special thank you to our generous venue sponsor, CQUniversity, for supporting the wider Rockhampton tech community and helping make this event a success!
