SA Monthly Wrap Up - October and November 24
Welcome to the October - November 2024 wrap-up from your SA branch, highlighting the key activities and events that brought our community together and showcasing our shared achievements and memorable moments.
SA Event Recap: Mastering Networking for Emerging Professionals
The South Australian branch’s event Mastering Networking on 24 Sept 2024 was a resounding success.
Led by Roncey Horton, the event was both engaging and informative, providing attendees with valuable insights on networking strategies.
The event was divided into two parts: a presentation on mastering networking skills, including Networking Fundamentals and Purpose, Building and Maintaining Connections, Personal Branding and Communication, Overcoming Challenges followed by an interactive speed networking session, where participants could immediately put their new skills into practice.
A special thank you to the South Australian Emerging Professionals Committee team and to Dasuni for stepping up as MC to ensure everything ran smoothly.
On a heartwarming note, one of our EPC members, Prity, showed her appreciation by gifting the organising staff personalised bookmarks as a thank-you for all the events hosted over the past year.
Deputy Premier launches SA Digital Pulse
The South Australian Digital Pulse event was officially launched last week with an inspiring opening speech by the Deputy Premier, the Hon. Susan Close.
The event highlighted the state’s commitment to digital innovation and growth, and drew attention to the importance of embracing technology to drive economic development and improve the lives of South Australians.
During her address, Deputy Premier Close emphasised the critical role of digital transformation in creating a future-ready workforce and fostering collaboration between government, industry, and communities.
The Deputy Premier, who is also the SA Branch Patron, engaged with the audience in a dynamic Q&A session. Her remarks underscored the government's vision for South Australia as a leader in the digital economy.
The SA Digital Pulse event provided a platform for industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers to discuss key digital trends and collaborate on shaping the future of the state’s digital landscape.
With a strong focus on growth and inclusion, the launch of the SA Digital Pulse marks an exciting step forward in South Australia’s journey towards becoming a digital powerhouse.

EOY SA Branch Forum for Professionals
The End-of-Year SA Branch Forum for Professionals was a resounding success, with attendance soaring from 70% last year to an impressive 95% this year, highlighting strong engagement from the professional community. The exceptional speaker lineup, organised by Siobhan, featured Dr. Denis Bauer, an internationally recognised expert in Biomedical Innovation. Dr. Bauer captivated the audience with her insights, noting that delivering evidence-based decisions is hindered by privacy and data security restrictions. She suggested that Trusted Research Environments could help resolve this issue by bringing “compute to the data” and enabling dynamic consent.
Additional takeaways included the increasing demand for synthetic data, which current solutions cannot meet due to limitations in scale and realism. Dr. Bauer introduced Genomator, a logic-solving approach applicable to categorical data, and highlighted VariantSpark, the first digital product from a public-sector organisation worldwide available on cloud-based marketplaces. She also discussed micro-commercialisation as a fast way to test markets and create new revenue streams.
Held at SORA on Pirie, Adelaide's newest hot spot, the venue received high praise for its ambiance and style. If any team wishes to align with this fantastic speaker for future events, we are happy to help facilitate the connection.
As we reach the end of 2024, we extend a formal invitation for you to engage more deeply with our upcoming events and community initiatives in the new year. Your involvement is crucial in shaping the future of our branch, and we look forward to your continued participation in the year and months ahead.
