Our latest ACS (Australian Computer Society) Gold Coast Chapter event shone a spotlight on the driving force behind any successful organisation—its people.
Generously hosted at Southern Cross University Gold Coast Campus, the event centred on building diverse, equitable, and inclusive teams in the ICT sector. Attendees were treated to an energising keynote from Dean Ellis 🌈 of Rec4Tech, who shared practical, forward-thinking strategies for fostering diversity in tech workplaces. Dean’s session explored the critical importance of inclusive recruitment and development practices, including a bias-free end-to-end hiring approach and an actionable “inclusive recruitment checklist.”
Following the keynote, attendees heard from ACS’s own Melanie Vearing part of the Industry Workforce Advisor team, who provided insights into the Queensland Government’s Workforce Strategy and how ACS supports small and medium tech businesses in building skilled and adaptable teams.
During the event, we were also proud to present the ACS Qld Student Award to the graduating SCU student with the highest GPA in the Bachelor of IT program Bradley Irwin—a celebration of excellence - and Bradley's achievements are a strong signal of the future talent emerging in our industry.
This event was a timely reminder that success in tech isn’t just about innovation—it’s about people. Let’s keep investing in inclusive practices that help our industry, and its people, thrive. Sincere thanks to the ACS (Australian Computer Society) Qld team Ken Gideon, Caitlin Hultgren and Angela Chen, our Gold Coast Chapter, inspiring presenters Dean Ellis 🌈 and Melanie Vearing, Vinh Bui and the team at Southern Cross University for bringing together an exceptional event!
