SA Monthly Wrap Up - May 2025

Welcome to the May 2025 wrap-up from your SA branch, highlighting the key activities and events that brought our community together and showcasing our shared achievements and memorable moments.

ACS SA welcomes new Member Services Coordinator

This month, we were excited to welcome Joe O'Sullivan as the new Member Services Coordinator for ACS South Australia. Joe brings great energy and a passion for member engagement and will be helping to support our local tech community across events, services and more.

Joe has had quite the busy travel schedule to begin his tenure at ACS. Gaining valuable experience working with both the Victorian and Western Australian Branches to assist various events. Below is a capture from the WA Tech Summit with staff from the National Institute of Technology and a WA EPC member, promoting ‘Gen Z’ photography and inclusion at the Summit.

South Australian Leaders Lunch

ACS hosted the SA Leaders Lunch at the picture perfect Adelaide Oval. Participants heard how to cut through the hype and get AI working within their organisations. Panel speakers then told real-world stories of how AI is being used by the SA government and local businesses.

The lunch event was also an opportunity for the Branch Committee and new members of ACS's expanding Adelaide team to get together with Amanda Schenk taking on the role of General Manager of IAPA and ACS Policy advisor Casey Tonkin having recently re-located from Sydney.

Joe O'Sullivan, still in his early weeks as SA's Member Services Coordinator, handled the pressure of running his first major event with aplomb. Huge shout out to Victorian State Manager, Kelsey Capaldo, for stepping in at the last minute to support the event after Branch Manager Andrew Haste was unfortunately indisposed.

We’d like to thank all the members and staff who supported this event and look forward to more successful South Australian Branch events.

ACS awards South Australian ICT student prize

At the recent CMS 2025 Student Prize Ceremony, located in the scenic National Wine Centre, we had the pleasure of presenting the Australian Computer Society (ACS) Prize to this year’s outstanding recipient, Thomas Joseph Frew, who graduated with a perfect GPA.

Sponsored by ACS, the prize recognises exceptional academic achievement and supports the recipient’s continued growth in the IT field. It was an honour to represent ACS in celebrating emerging talent within the technology community.’

SA branch kicks off PPP initiative

ACS South Australia was delighted to kick off the first official launch of the Professional Partnership Program with Kaplan Business School at their Adelaide campus.

With over 60 eager emerging professionals in attendance, Kaplan students had the opportunity to learn about how ACS supports their careers from studying through to employment and all the way to retirement.

Joe O’Sullivan, SA Member Services Coordinator, and Kelsey Capaldo, Vic Branch Manager, had the opportunity to network with students and staff after an interactive panel discussion where one student won the opportunity to have a 1-on-1 Coffee Catch up with Andrew, SA Branch Manager.

A huge thank you to Kaplan Business School for creating a great evening for all, and a big thank you to Alannah Grech and Oliver Stenmark for their coordination in the lead up.
