Go1 Gives Educators a Front-Row Seat to the Evolving World of ICT

Go1, a global learning platform founded in Brisbane, recently welcomed educators from the ICT Gateway to Industry Schools Program for a behind-the-scenes look at life inside a leading Queensland tech company. The visit helped bridge the gap between classrooms and the fast-evolving digital workforce.

Go1 is a Queensland based online training platform founded in 2015 by four ex-school friends. Since that time, it has evolved into a workforce learning powerhouse and the largest online learning library on the planet. In fact, a Go1 course or learning resource is completed almost three times every second, and every day approximately 50,000 hours of training are completed – moving Go1 closer to its vision of reaching 1 billion learners. Still head-quartered in Underwood, Brisbane, the company has now grown to be valued at over $3 billion and has offices all around the world.

On June 10th 2025, Go1 hosted several members of the ICT Gateway to Industry Schools Program (ICT GISP), including teachers from local schools. The purposes of this visit were two-fold. First, to enable teachers of digital technology subjects to experience what a modern tech workplace and the roles performed there look like so they can take that first-hand knowledge back to classrooms. Secondly, to connect them directly to a local company as the basis for future collaborations.

Attendees were inspired by the chance to interact directly with such a leading digital employer. Mark Savery, the Head of Technology at Hillcrest Christian College, shared that the event “highlighted the importance of encouraging curiosity in our students for future success and showcased Go1's remote-first approach as a leading Queensland tech business. Their story as a company was really inspiring.”

ICT GISP Coordinator at Brisbane South State Secondary College Daniel Nicol’s opinion was that “the disconnect between schools and industry is particularly challenging in digital technologies because the tools, technologies and practices evolve so rapidly. That is why it is such a fantastic opportunity to connect with industry professionals, like those from Go1, who are actively working in the field.” He further shared that these kind of events “help us, as teachers, to ensure we are equipping students with both the personal, interpersonal and technical skills that they will need to thrive in the future, whether they choose a career in IT, or apply those capabilities in other industries as these skills are becoming essential across all kinds of workplaces.”

Our thanks to Go1 for their support, and to the teachers for giving up their time to attend. The ICT GISP project is proudly supported and funded by the Queensland Government and has been facilitated by the Australian Computer Society since 2020. Learn more at https://qldictgisp.acs.org.au
