Highlights
- In this edition, we meet Willis Lin, Co-Chair of the ACS Townsville Chapter.

1. Tell us about your tech career history and highlights to date?
I started my tech career as a Telecommunication Technician in 2013, it was challenging but rewarding as a professional who visited business and residential clients to resolve their phone and internet issues in Tropical North Queensland. Five and a half year later, just before Covid broke out, I enrolled into JCU starting a master's degree majoring in networking, at the same time tutoring programming and working as a Service Desk Analyst at Telstra. After I graduated, I got into an IT Support Engineer role and recently transitioned into a new role as a Service Delivery Specialist. There are many highlights along the way, I received an iSTAR award in 2015 as one of the TOP telecommunication technicians in Queensland; I was also one of the contributors at Telstra to resolve outstanding Level 2 incidents to an extend that the queue was closed permanently, that was a history making moment. Of course there are more highlights, to know more about it, why don't you send me a LinkedIn connect request?
2. What career advice would you give your younger self?
If I were younger, I would explore more. Many of us don't know what we want to do, I believe through exploration you get to know yourself more, you realise what you like and what you don't, you know what type of person you like to work with and some might be difficult to befriend with. Most importantly, you search for that very important thing that is in your heart which is authentic, unique and personal. It is not a pursuit of financial freedom, but rather who you want to be, things that you do each day would make this world to be a better place. You will know what that career is when you find it, because that is something no matter how many setbacks you have encountered, you will still want to do it for the rest of your life.
3. What is your favourite piece of tech or gadget?
My favourite piece of tech is a personal desktop computer, because you can customise both hardware and software to your personal needs. I enjoy designing and assembling it to suit my budget and work requirements.
4. Tell us about your favourite benefit of ACS membership and how it supports you in your tech career?
My favourite benefit of ACS membership would be events and workshops. Through events and workshops you get to know the specific topics you are interested in as well as new tech trends. They are very beneficial as part of my professional development and social networking. You get to know like-minded professionals in the field, sharing knowledge, experience and ideas. Additionally, Skillsoft learning accelerator is a platform that has tons of certification courses that enables and equips my professional learning journey continuously.
