NSW Branch aces Tennis Australia event

On Thursday 3 July, ACS NSW Branch welcomed Mohan Aiyaswami, CIO Tennis Australia, to our Sydney hub as he shared a behind-the-scenes look at the technology powering the premier international sporting event, Australian Tennis Open.  Every year over 1.2 millions fans pass through the gates of Melbourne park, with millions more joining live across the globe.

Mohan offered our members a compelling insight into the intricate logistics, cutting-edge IT systems and real-time coordination that underpin Australian Tennis Open success on the global stage.

Marking the successful completion of the 2024 NSW Government Digital Graduate Program

NSW Premier’s Department and NSW Parliament hosted the End of Program Celebration for the 2024 cohort of the NSW Government Graduate Program, Digital Stream. Other Streams celebrated included Engineering, Legal, Primary and Social Work.

Congratulations to all graduates who completed multiple rotations and navigated their way through multiple NSW Government Agencies while contributing to making NSW a great place to live and work.

Thanks to our guest speakers for the 2024 Digital Stream cohort who elevate the program to new heights with every workshop delivered. Generous with their time and expertise, always leaving attendees with something to think about and actions to take.

  • Jason Higson, Project Services Manager, ACS

  • Meg Wemyss, Change Capability Building Manager, NSW Department of Education

  • Peter Leonard, data and technology business consultant and lawyer

  • Peter Williams, Founder Deloitte Digital and leader of Centre of the Edge, Deloitte’s futures think tank

  • Andrew Spiegelman, Head of Data, Service NSW

  • Davis McEwan, Emissions Reduction and Climate Risk Specialist.

The ACS NSW Emerging Professionals event on July 16 brought members together for an engaging session on building stronger communication skills. MC Noah Pincini from the NSW EPC kicked off the evening, leading into a keynote by ACS Media & Communications Manager Paul Wallbank, with support from EPC Member Ida Konradsen.

The keynote emphasised the importance of being concise, clear, and consistent, noting that communication breakdowns often stem from perception and delivery, not intent. Attendees were encouraged to adapt their communication style and medium to suit their audience, consider the 5W’s and H (who, what, when, where, why, how), and be mindful of the needs of a multigenerational and multicultural workforce. Practising regularly was highlighted as a key way to grow confidence and improve impact over time.

Participants then took part in three interactive workshops led by EPC Members Anansha KC, Vishesh Kalsi, and Hibah Jasim. These explored how to improve active listening and elevator pitches, navigate uncomfortable conversations like conflict resolution and deadline delays, and consider how communication mediums, like email, phone, or video, can influence intention and impact.

Congratulations to the ACS NSW EPC team on another insightful and well-delivered event. We look forward to welcoming more emerging professionals to upcoming sessions in October and November.

ACS NSW presents Macquarie University Dean’s Excellence Awards 2025

On Monday 14 July, ACS NSW Branch was proud to continue its sponsorship of the Macquarie Business School and present The Australian Computer Society Award for Best Performance – Master of Business Analytics to James Charge.

Guest attendees were honoured to a special keynote speech from Melanie Silva, Managing Director and VP, Google Australia & New Zealand, discussing life lessons on managing your inner critic using a bus analogy to acknowledge and seat your inner critic right at the back of the bus, with all the other distracting noises, and to have your front of bus seated with purpose and experiential instinct.

ACS NSW is proud to sponsor and recognise exceptional commitment and results for Australia’s future Tech leaders.

ACS hosted a trade booth at the Quantum Future Talent Careers Fair in Sydney

Last week ACS hosted a complimentary booth at the sold out Quantum Future Talent Careers Fair in Sydney. The event saw students and graduates from a range of NSW educators attend and ask questions regarding career pathways in technology and understanding on how to stand out in the industry. The event was a great opportunity to connect with industry such as the Australian Institute of Physics, and connect with current members who shared positive feedback on their ACS experience. Thank you to Matthew Lapinski, ACS student member for volunteering for the day to assist Alannah at the trade stand and share his experiences as he is currently approaching graduation.

ACS presents to a full room of eager students at Kaplan Business School Sydney campus

On Thursday 24 July, Alannah Grech, Partner Success Manager – Communities presented to a full room of eager international students at Kaplan Business School Sydney campus. Students ranged from first to final year students who were engaged and eager to understand more about how ACS can best support them throughout their careers and the value of programs such as Professional Year and Mentoring. The audience had a great range of questions such as what to do if you’re not sure if you’re studying the right course, what opportunities are out there if you want to learn more about different career pathways and how to approach attending your first event.  Questions such as this support the amazing work that the emerging professional committees are doing around the country to help students build connections and showcase their career pathways so others can learn from and hear firsthand their experiences. Thank you to the team from Kaplan for having ACS attend
