‘How to get a job in engineering’: PwC & Northrop Grumman Staff Provide Industry Insights In Webinar For Emerging Professionals

Over 200 emerging professionals tuned in to hear how to break into engineering from experts at PwC and Northrop Grumman. Speakers shared their unique career journeys, what a day in the life of an engineer looks like, and practical tips to make your resume shine.

On Monday the 21st of July, the ACS SSM team hosted the latest in the Career Pathways webinar series, this one focused on ‘How to get a job in engineering’. Over 200 attendees logged in to hear from an array of highly qualified and engaging speakers:

  • Melissa Bates: Technical Competency Development Lead, Northrop Grumman

  • Regin Paul: Triton Software Engineer, Northrop Grumman

  • Chris Braddon: Talent Acquisition Manager, Manpower Group Talent Solutions

We first received an energetic and passionate introduction from our excellent emcee Purvang Dave, capturing the attention of our audience

Our wonderful guests spoke of their own career pathways, which ranged from Qirat’s journey as an international student with engineering experience in Pakistan before she moved to Australia, through to Melissa’s 35-year career beginning in the Air Force at age 17 before later moving into technical roles.

We also heard of the day-to-day life of engineers, with Regin in particular going into highly useful levels of detail about the programs and processes he uses regularly to conduct his work as a software engineer.

Finally, we heard from Chris, who gave advice to our emerging professionals from a recruitment perspective, highlighting the importance of persistence, specifying the tangible outcomes of your projects and crafting a professional resume.

Our speakers then engaged in a Q&A session, and we are thankful to all our speakers not only for their insights but also for their willingness to stay online past the scheduled finish time for the session to answer more questions, as there was a huge level of passion and curiosity from our audience.

Thanks to Alannah Grech, Partner Success Manager – Communities & Jasmine Best, Student Engagement Coordinator for running the backend of the webinar smoothly and handling the many queries coming through in the chat.
