Speed-meet Careers Event helps Year 12’s kick off their year
Highlights
- Schools may be closed, but 150 Year 12 students kicked off their year early at UQ through the NYSF 5-day program. ACS supported the event, with ICT GISP Jonathan Nalder and Young Tech Ambassadors hosting career chats and STEM activities.
Schools are closed until late January, but that hasn't stopped 150 Year 12 students getting in early to kick off their year! Thanks to the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF), the annual Year 12 Program has once again brought students from all over Australia to The University of Queensland's Advanced Engineering Building for a 5-day program of STEM and career activities.
ACS (Australian Computer Society) was proud to support this event again, with the ICT Gateway to Industry project manager (ICT GISP) Jonathan Nalder and three ACS Young Tech Ambassadors taking part in a 'speed-meeting' type afternoon of rapid fire 7-minute career discussions.
Some groups got to take and discuss the 'My Digital Career' mydigitalcareer.com.au/qld survey from the Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business, as well as the ACS Foundation's STEM Career Wheel. Others had the unique chance to chat with the amazing industry experts from the ACS Young Tech Ambassador network and hear about:
> Game engines with Tyson Butler-Boschma of Gameloft Brisbane and Toybox Games,
> Automation Engineering with Tarushi Gera of Roboyo,
> Web and app development with Joshua Ho of Acenci
Huge thanks to Sarah Crowe of NYSF for having us along, and congrats to the whole organising team, including many former student attendees, for a fantastic event.
The ACS ICT GISP is proudly supported by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training and facilitated by ACS to help today's learners become tomorrow's vital technology professionals.
