Lumify’s Women in IT Scholarship: Empowering women into rewarding careers
Last year, Lumify launched the Her Name in Code: Women in IT Scholarship, a dedicated initiative to bridge the gender gap in tech.
By providing full tuition to Lumify’s premier online courses, the scholarship offers a direct pathway for women to develop their skills and build rewarding careers. Through our partnership with Lumify, we are proud to have empowered our members to take the next step in their professional journeys.
One of our successful applicants, Natasha Shadaya, sat down with us to discuss how she feels been given the opportunity to develop her career and how she plans to use the skills she’s developing.
What motivated you to apply for the scholarship?
Natasha: As I approached the end of my degree, I knew I wanted to complement my education with a professional certification, especially in the area I hope to specialise in. When I came across the scholarship in ACS Weekly, I immediately felt it was the perfect opportunity to study a short course that would add value in my career.
I was also motivated by the fact that this scholarship supports women in tech, an area that not only resonates with me but one I’m deeply passionate about. Being part of a program that empowers and uplifts women definitely inspired me to apply.
How did you feel when you found out you'd been selected?
Natasha: At first, I honestly couldn’t believe it because I didn’t expect it at all, especially knowing that so many people would want an opportunity like this. But once it sank in, I was really grateful and keen to tackle the exciting challenge ahead.
How do you think this is going to benefit your career?
Natasha: I truly believe this opportunity will be incredibly valuable for my career. The course I selected (AWS Cloud Computing Professional) is highly recognised and will deepen my knowledge of cloud technologies. When combined with the skills I gained from my Cybersecurity degree, it will equip me with a strong and well-rounded foundation to make a meaningful impact in the tech industry.
Later in my career, I aspire to become a Solutions Architect and in Australia, only about 15% of Solutions Architects are women. So, building these skills early is especially important to me. This scholarship provides the perfect platform to start that journey and brings me one step closer to achieving that goal.
What are you hoping to gain from the program?
Natasha: I hope to learn from experienced instructors and connect with industry professionals who can mentor me toward achieving my goals. I’m especially excited to work through hands-on labs and expand my skills across AWS and cloud computing as a whole. Beyond my own development, I also hope to use this experience to inspire young girls and women to challenge themselves and explore new skills that can lead to meaningful careers in tech.
