From Campus to Career:

On 28 Aug, ACS Canberra proudly hosted the first Emerging Professionals Committee (EPC) event, From Campus to Career, at the University of Canberra.

This panel discussion brought together around 50 students and early-career professionals to explore how to successfully transition from study to the ICT workforce - discussing networking, building connections, and overcoming common challenges such as permanent residency pathways and language barriers faced by international students.

Key takeaways from the event:

  • Networking is a skill, not just a buzzword - genuine connections made at events like this can open doors you didn’t even know existed.
  • Practical experience counts - internships and early projects often make a stronger impression than grades alone.
  • Confidence can be cultivated - preparing for interviews and clearly knowing your story is essential.
  • International students bring unique strengths - focus on your skills and adaptability rather than viewing visa status or language background as barriers.
  • ACS is your gateway to career growth - through our mentorship, events, and industry connections, we help students and emerging ICT professionals accelerate their journey in the tech workforce.

Your Network is Your Net Worth

On 27 November, the EPC hosted Your Network is Your Net Worth event. From emerging professionals taking their first steps in the ICT sector, to long-standing ACS members offering guidance and wisdom, the room was filled with genuine connection, curiosity, and collaboration.

A special shout-out to our keynote speaker, Jim Boekel
Jim delivered an inspiring session on the true value of strategic networking – showing  how intentional conversations can accelerate careers, strengthen organisational purpose, and open doors across industries. His message was clear: every interaction is an opportunity for growth

Deep appreciation to all participating ACS Professional Members
Your presence transformed the night. From leading roundtable discussions to sharing real-world advice, you demonstrated exactly what makes Canberra’s ICT community exceptional — generosity, openness, and a genuine commitment to supporting the next generation of tech leaders.
