The Western Australia Emerging Professional Committee (EPC) works to represent the interests of ACS’s emerging professional members, from students to graduates to those in the early stages of their tech career.

2025 was a highly successful year, with multiple engaging events that delivered insights and opportunities for our WA emerging professional members.

Events in 2025 included:

AI Workshops:

Two events that helped students and emerging professionals engage more with AI and Vibe Coding, developing skills to enhance those obtained through their academic studies.

  • AI IRL: Level Up Your 9 to 5: An event that brought AI into the real world, with demonstrations of tools used by real professionals in their everyday workflows.
  • Getting Started with Vibe Coding: An interactive session designed to show how AI is changing the way we approach programming. Whether you're a developer, a beginner, or someone who’s never written a line of code, this workshop showed how AI-powered tools like Vibe Coding can help you build useful applications — faster, smarter, and more intuitively.

The Emerging Professionals Workshop Series

The first two events in a planned series aiming to focus in on particular skills for those early in their career. The first two sessions covered:

  • Establishing Your Personal Brand Online: In this hands-on workshop, attendees learned how to craft a professional, authentic brand that reflects you (the real you!) with expert guidance from award-winning digital strategist Ming Johanson.
  • Future-Proofing Your Skills: Staying Relevant in a Rapidly Changing Tech World: Brilliant facilitator and digital leader, Vidhu Bhardwaj, helped empower tech graduates and young professionals to develop the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need to thrive in today’s fast-changing tech world.

Tech Strikes & Networking Nights

A wonderful way to finish off the year, having some fun but also helping cement the networks among our emerging professionals that will help them throughout their careers in tech.

In the words of committee member Jenny Tran:

"This year, the ACS WA EPC has delivered an impressive range of activities – from technology talks and personal skills development workshops to career advancement sessions and industry-focused topics such as Vibe Coding, Cyber Security... Most recently, we wrapped up the year with our Social Networking Bowling Night, bringing together a vibrant mix of students, emerging professionals and experienced industry practitioners.

Across all these events, participants had the opportunity to gain new knowledge, strengthen their professional capabilities and connect with like-minded peers and sector experts. These shared experiences have contributed to shaping an EPC community that, although young, is already highly engaged, supportive and committed to collective growth."

A special thanks goes to Olivia van der Kroon, Chair of the EPC through 2024 and 2025, who is moving on to the next phase of her tech career as an established professional. Thank you for all your hard work Olivia!

Well done to the WA EPC on a successful 2025, and good luck for 2026! If you’d like to keep up to date on what the EPC are up to, follow the ACS WA page here
