How to integrate in to the workplace - Career Toolkit Series Webinar

In the tech industry, there's a common misconception that technical prowess alone guarantees success in the industry. While it’s true that technical skills are essential, knowing how to connect with new colleagues and integrate effectively in to a new workplace are arguably much more important in the long term as anyone can accumulate technical skills, but good soft skills are more rare and sought after in every workplace.

As we learned in sessions of the ACS Career Toolkit Series in the past few months, most jobs are never advertised and career growth is closely linked to how well you can develop and maintain your network. When starting a new role, or embarking on your first internship or graduate role in your tech career, your first few weeks in a new workplace are critical to ensuring that your professional network can grow and strengthen over time, as you grow and develop in your technical skills.

The next webinar in our Career Toolkit Series addresses this issue with “How to integrate in to the workplace”, where you can join Zarin Leenat, Information Security Officer, Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (QLD) who will be sharing insights and advice for working in Government, and Kelsey Capaldo, Stakeholder Relations Manager at ACS, who previously worked as a Recruitment Consultant who will provide advice from her years of experience in recruitment and working closely with industry.

Their discussion will focus on the first few weeks of your internship, graduate role or just your next role in tech with time to address your questions during the session including:

  • You have signed the contract, what to do to best prepare before you start the new role
  • How to best prepare for your first day
  • What to expect in the first 4 weeks of your job
  • What are general expectations from the workplace to consider when you start
  • How to introduce yourself to your new colleagues
  • How to approach working and communicating with new colleagues of different ages, experiences and more.

At ACS, we know that your first steps in to your career or in any new job can be nerve racking, and we are here to help you develop the tools you need to ensure your success, wherever your next role might be.
